Kim Kardashian-West Has Done More For Prison Reform Than Any Potential Candidate

Despite all the work Kim Kardashian has been putting in, it seems as if her activism is not being appreciated as it should. The two biggest platforms a person in America can have is a celebrity platform or a political platform. It is up to the clebrity or politician on how they intend to create change with that platform. In a nutshell Kim Kardashian said…f**ck all this talking and waiting for legislation, let me grab my balls and go out there and free some people and so far she has been doing that. It doesn’t stop there, she played a big part in one of the biggest Prison Reform Acts we have ever seen.

Van Jones went as far as to say the new criminal justice reform, was brought upon by her,

Let me tell you something, if Kim Kardashian had not gone to the White House and talked to Donald Trump we would not have passed this bill,” Jones states. “We would not have 50,000 people fewer in federal prisons because of this bill, 100 percent of people who are locked up in federal prisons can go home a little bit earlier if they stay out of trouble, 50 percent of them can come home a lot earlier if they work hard, 100 percent of women are not going to be shackled and mistreated. Why? Because Kim Kardashian was willing to put her celebrity on the line for people she didn’t even know.”

Yes she has only helped pardon at least three people including, Cyntoia Brown, but that’s more than what Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris have done for Prison Reform. Elizabeth Warren has definitely advocated for black people, aka said stuff that makes black people feel better, but that’s where it ends. Kamala Harris has actually worked against the same system Kim Kardashian’s has been trying to tear down.

Other’s may not support Kim Kardashian because they still can not get past her sextape and nude photos. In my opinion, isn’t that the ultimate “feminist”? Took control over her body and sexuality and built a empire with it? No matter what you think of her, the empire she built has given her a platform to create true change in society. The women she freed are not photo opps or crisis actors, these are real black women from the bottom of society, who have been locked up for years. They are now free, simply because Kim Kardashian simply decided to fight for a cause.

Maybe it’s not fair to hold Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris to the same standard as Kim Kardashian. They are married to white men who may be far removed from the culture of mass incarceration. Kim Kardashian on the other hand is married to black man named Kanye West who has been using his platform to speak out against mass incarceration over the span of the last 15 years.
