How My Campaign Is Connected To Kendrick Lamar’s Drake Diss “They Not Like Us”
My name is Addison Sarter and I am running for City Council in DC. This article will discuss how. my campaign is connected to Kendrick Lamar’s “They Not Like Us”
In the song, Kendrick Lamar shouts out Atlanta for being the Black Mecca of America and how Drake who is from Canada, colonizes the American Black culture of Atlanta.
I say this humbly…my relatives are largely responsible for turning Atlanta into the Black Mecca of America.
My campaign, is a campaign to continue the movement and policies of my cousin Maynard Jackson Jr. He was arguably the Most Revolutionary Black Mayor/Black Politician in American History, and he helped turn Atlanta into the Black Mecca of America.
As the first Black Mayor of Atlanta, he created more millionaires than any Black leader or Black public figure.
To show how much of a radical and revolutionary he was, he went to war directly with the “White Power Structure”, the Banking Industry.
He told the white Banks in Atlanta that if more Black people and women weren’t hired, he was going to use his power as mayor to remove ALL of the money out of the Banks, and deposit them else where.
The banks didn’t listen, so he began removing millions from the bank. They finally listened and began hiring more Black people, minorities, and women.
He also started the most revolutionary Affirmative Action Program for Black people in American History.
When he took office, only 1 percent of the government contracts in Atlanta were going to Black people and other minorities.
Within five years he made it so that 34 percent of contracts were going to Black people and other minorities.
He is also played a large role into making the Rap Scene of Atlanta what it is today. In 1974 Maynard Jackson established the Bureau of Cultural Affairs. This art departments helped fund talent shows and festivals, which allowed Atlanta artists to make names for themselves. Fast forward to 2024, Atlanta is dominating the rap industry.
The Rapper Killer Mike , who is from Atlanta, just won a Grammy for RAP album of the year. On the album he named a song after Maynard Jackson. He is spoke many times about how my cousin and great grandfather helped shape who he is today.
The accomplishments of my cousin were made possible by his grandfather, My great grandfather , John Wesley Dobbs. My great grandfather was one of the most effective Black political organizers of the Jim Crow South.
He helped build up the Black political and economic power in Atlanta and laid the foundation that helped my cousin Maynard Jackson Jr. win.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. who was a family friend, gave the eulogy at my great grandfather’s funeral.
His statue can be seen in Ludacris’s music video, “Georgia”
The revolutionary values that have been instilled in me are precisely why a member from Homeland Security/FEMA labeled me as an “enemy to America.” Similar to how my cousin “waged a war” against the banking industry in Atlanta , I am waging a war against the real estate developers in DC. Two of the biggest real estate developers in DC testified to try to block my legislation for Black DC residents to control the economic development and housing in our neighborhoods.
The word “colonizer” was a major theme of Kendrick Lamar’s rap diss. Dr. King and Malcolm X both agreed that Black Americans were a colony, due to the fact that non-Black people control the economic development and businesses in our communities. I am the only candidate in D.C. who is who has proposed legislation to drive the colonizers (corrupt real estate developers) out of DC.
Fighting against oppression is a family tradition and ingrained in me. That is my culture. No colonizer or real estate developer can persuade me to turn my back on my family tradition or culture.
